"The same sun that melts the wax hardens the clay..."
Are we wax or clay today?
How is it that two people in the same situation can experience two different things? When the presence of God comes; one welcomes Him and lays down pride and his own agenda, and his heart is softened like wax before the Lord.
Another, when the presence of God comes, hears that call to lay down pride and humble himself before God—but he turns away, and as God's presence radiates on him, his heart is hardened like clay before the Lord.
Proverbs 29:1 is a bit scary in that regard; “He who is often rebuked and hardens his neck, will suddenly be destroyed, and that without remedy.”
That verse pretty much speaks for itself; so I'd rather focus on the opposite—surrendering to the Lord God. I've found that the more I consciously try to be sensitive to any leading by the Holy Spirit, or a glimmer of the presence of God; the more sensitive I become. But we always have that choice; to resist or acquiesce to the Creator of the Universe—the One who gives us our very next breath, and heartbeat.
• If He would open a door of opportunity to give an apology where one is needed; wax or clay?
• If you see a chance to do something kind for someone else; wax or clay?
• If you hear God's Spirit calling you to come away with Him for a few minutes—just to sit in His presence, and be with Him, and to open your ears to His voice; wax or clay?
In Isaiah 55, the Lord gives us an amazing invitation:
“Ho! Everyone who thirsts,
Come to the waters;
And you who have no money,
Come, buy and eat.
Yes, come, buy wine and milk
Without money and without price.
Why do you spend money for what is not bread,
And your wages for what does not satisfy?
Listen carefully to Me, and eat what is good,
And let your soul delight itself in abundance.
Incline your ear, and come to Me.
Hear, and your soul shall live...
Let's be wax and allow Him to mold us into our true life purposes.
